Prince Edward County at a Glance
Prince Edward County—the 1,048 sq km (404.8 sq mi) area situated between Toronto
and Ottawa—features an unconventional
royal spirit that appeals to a variety of visitors. The topography of the land
is diverse, filled with Precambrian rock, high limestone cliffs, marshes and thick
forests of white pine and oak. The presence of thriving orchards, expansive provincial
parks, winding country roads and 13 quaint towns and villages does nothing but
add to the ambiance of this natural wonderland. Lake Ontario is found bending
and curving around the southern shore of the county, providing over 800 km (500
mi) of coastline and boatloads of water activities. The fresh-water sand dunes
of Sandbanks
Provincial Park are renowned international, and cajole even the most proper
person to run down them bursting with giggles. Prince Edward County’s distinct
rural atmosphere is entwined with eclectic tones, for one can buy fresh produce
at a farmers market, rummage through treasures at an antique shop, watch a grand
production at the Regent
Theatre or purchase a unique item at one of many artists’ studios.
